DESIGN: Pipsqueak x Rachel Gale

I am so delighted to share this wonderful news with you. Pipsqueak has collaborated with the gorgeously talented Rachel Gale on an exclusive NEW item; Mr Bear Pillowcase. I chat to Rachel about how she came up with the idea, what her creative process involves and the love she has for seeing her designs on little ones. Read on to discover more...

The story of Mr Bear…

Back in 2014, Rachel Gale was babysitting one night and, ever the artist, took her sketchbook along with her. While watching a film on the sofa, she began her animal collection. Beginning with ‘Bean’, a much-loved childhood guinea pig, she then felt inspired to draw a bear. "I sketched each animal in pencil first and then with my 0.4 black pen I added every line & detail. Mr Bear was born. At first, I decided to print these illustrations as simple postcards & soon after I began selling them at Pavilion bakery where I worked at the time".

After the success of her postcards, Rachel began researching other products she could design and sell, before deciding on Babygro’s. “I sourced a lovely organic cotton garment online & tested many samples. I had Mr Bear screen printed on to these by a local print studio...et voila! This first batch was a hit, I sold all 25 on Etsy (& gave some to friends too!) so I decided to print more. That’s how it began...I’ve always followed my gut & have grown my brand slowly over the years".

He’s been around for some time, and it makes me so happy to imagine all the little ones that have enjoyed their early years styling one of my illustrated onesies. He has been popping up on cards, babygros and kids tees ever since!"
